The Road to the Superbowl

Photobucket
With week 17 in the books, the NFL regular season now comes to an end, making way for the Playoffs. The tables are set as each team awaits their chances to make it to the promise land that is the Superbowl. Only one team will stand alone, holding the Lombardi trophy and with the 2009 Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers falling short of playoff contention, it looks like we'll have ourselves a new winner this year. The first round of this year's playoff match-ups look a little like this:

AFC Wild-Card Round
New York Jets @ Cincinnati Bengals
Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots

NFC Wild-Card Round
Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
Green Bay Packers @ Arizona Cardinals

With Bye Weeks for the following teams: Indianapolis Colts(AFC), San Diego Chargers(AFC), New Orleans Saints(NFC) and Minnesota Vikings(NFC)

With the Playoffs set to begin, predictions are bound to be made and my surprising picks in this year's postseason just happen to be the team's in recent years that have been notorious for making it to the big game, only to fall short year after year. However, this year seems to be different and I'm sticking with 'em. The San Diego Chargers are my pick in the AFC and the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC. Since starting the season off on a rather slow start with a 2-3 record, the Chargers have become the hottest team in the NFL winning every game since. Aside from the 11-game winning streak is a 17-0 record in December for the Philip Rivers and the Chargers. Although they're the hottest team in the league right now, unfortunately the Superbowl isn't in December as all eyes are on San Diego waiting to see if they'll fall short for yet another season. One stat worth mentioning, is that the Chargers haven't scored less than 20 points all season long. A stat that should good enough to help Rivers' campaign in the race for the MVP.

Similar to the Chargers, the Philadelphia Eagles have also had early struggles to be begin the season. None more difficult to overcome, than the injury of Eagles star quarterback Donovan McNabb who went down with an injury in week 1. But thanks to a perfectly played role by back-up QB Kevin Kolb, hope was still in tact for the Eagles, despite McNabb's early absence. However, it won't be as easy of a task as I once suspected. The Eagles will have to make their second trip to Dallas in as many weeks. & The first one was one to forget as the Eagles were shut out, 24-0. The loss resulting in Philly taking the Wild-Card, as Dallas held on for the NFC East division title. With plenty to improve from, I'm sure the Eagles will be more than prepared for their rematch against the Cowboys. & I'm not the only one who thinks so, newly famed wide-receiver DeSean Jackson posted on his Twitter page, "Got smashed by them cowboys 2daaaaaay sheeeeesh its all good we gonna sting they ass next week lil buddy..." Jackson was recently announced as one of this year's Pro Bowl wide-outs and has been a key to the Eagles offensive success this season.
